Fr. Thomas Hopko says in his podcast:
Read the Scriptures regularly—not reading them to fight with others, not reading them to show off quoting, but reading them as fuel, as food. Because if we don’t read the Scriptures regularly, we die. It would be like trying to live without eating or to drive a car without putting fuel into it.

About 9 years ago I was at a Women’s Retreat in Oregon and the speaker was Presv. Faye Stylianopoulos and she gave a talk on reading the scriptures. This was so long ago I don’t really remember much about it but I do still have the bookmark she gave us with a prayer on it. It is a beautiful prayer that one can pray before reading the scriptures. I do believe is also the prayer (or similar to) the prayer that the priest says just before the reading of the gospel in the Divine Liturgy.

We should swim in the words of the holy Scripture, like a fish is swimming in the water.
Let us swim in holy scripture.
Have a blessed week, my joys!
