Fr. Thomas Hopko said when sharing the 55 Maxims in his podcast, “Normally, that would be one’s pastor, or one’s Spiritual Father or Mother, one’s elder. But every human being, every Christian, must have someone who knows everything about them. And that we regularly report to them about what is going on in our life.”
Does anyone else feel anxious about this? I was speaking to a friend of mine recently and her response was, “I think I’ll stick to several people. No one person should know all there is to know.”
I feel the same way.
But…I do understand what Father Thomas was getting at. We should all have someone who we can call on to guide us spiritually. And truly to grow and root out deeply, we need to speak of those things that are sometimes hard to talk about.
Despite my understanding this I can admit that I’m not there yet. I have a lot of growing to do. I agree with my friend, I have several people that I feel very comfortable with and can pretty much speak about everything to.
Will I get to a point where I have one person that can counsel me and guide me? I hope so.
Have a blessed week, my joys! Here in WA we have fully gained summer and it is quite warm. I’m grateful because I know my garden will love it. But it makes it difficult to work out in the garden.
Glory to God for all things!
